Learning another language now delivers health benefits!

As if you didn’t need another excuse to learn a second language…Drum roll please…IT IS ACTUALLY GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH!  Yes, there are actual real scientific studies that are now emerging that support the fact that by speaking two languages you can delay getting Alzheimer’s disease later on.

The research is fascinating and focuses on folks that were exposed to a second language from birth as well as those learning later in life. So, what does this really mean? Here is my non-scientific explanation—basically, by learning another language you are exercising your brain and like any muscle it is stronger when it is “pumped up.” As such, when/if Alzheimer’s strikes having a stronger brain with more control due to it’s need to process different languages enables you to better cope with the disease.

If you are interested in the more scientific explanation please click here.

 Arnold, Hanz and Franz

So, to borrow from the famous Hans and Franz featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger (a famous bilingual!)  “Ve just vant to pump… (clap) …YOU UP!”

TELL ME MORE Employees Give Back This Holiday Season

The holiday season inspires us to reflect on all of the many blessings in our lives.  With this in mind, TELL ME MORE employees hosted a Canned Food Drive and recently donated 2,906 non-perishable items.  These cans will be given to the Phoenix Rescue Mission to support needy families this holiday season.  Thank you to all employees who helped to make this a successful event!

With many people out of work throughout this rough economy, the holiday season can be stressful and difficult.  This Holiday season, like many previous years, TMM adopted several local families in need.  A Giving Tree in the TELL ME MORE lobby was filled with ornaments with specific gift ideas for children of families in need this holiday season.  The beneficiaries of these gifts were chosen by Helping Hands, which distributes over “300,000-plus toys/gifts in a 6-week time period.  Distribution begins with consulting with social workers, nurses, churches, schools, child protective services, homeless shelters, Native American groups and other helping organizations,” according to the Helping Hands website.  For more information, please visit http://www.azhelpinghands.org/.

In addition, to provide an alternative option for those of us who think of our furry companions as members of our family, TELL ME MORE adopted a local no-kill animal shelter.  Information on Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA can be found at http://www.aawl.org/. The wish list is located at http://www.aawl.org/content.asp?id=6.

How were you able to give to others this holiday season?

Customers TELL US MORE about their experience

After returning recently from the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) trade show, what were your thoughts on the show?  What were some sessions that stood out at you?

Hopefully you had the chance to stop by the TELL ME MORE booth and see our new version (v10), complete with a new interface, cross browser compatibility (PC and Mac) as well as accessibility anytime/anywhere through online access.  Laura Madeoy, Carrie Myhre and Rick Kennamer spoke with many foreign language teachers about the wide variety of features in TELL ME MORE and gave TELL ME MORE demos, while visitors enjoyed a relaxing foot massage and received a bright green TELL ME MORE cloth bag.

My favorite part of the show was when our demos were interrupted on several occasions by customers exclaiming, “TELL ME MORE is such a fabulous program.  It’s such a great tool for your classroom – I would highly recommend it.”  I thought to myself, “I must capture the enthusiasm of these customers!”  So, I asked some of those raving fans to tell us about their experience with TELL ME MORE.  Listen in to below Youtube videos as they explain why they love TELL ME MORE.
